Safe, protected open space for all San Franciscans
We’re building a movement for safe streets and vibrant public space in San Francisco
Kid Safe Spaces
San Francisco needs more Kid Safe spaces. If it’s safe for kids, it’s safe for everyone. Since 2021, we’ve achieved three new permanent public spaces.
JFK Promenade
JFK Promenade is a safe and lively space for kids and people of all ages, abilities, and backgrounds, and the origin of our movement. In 2022, the Board of Supervisors made it permanent, then voters ultimately approved Proposition J, making it a part of the landscape of Golden Gate Park forever.
A Park on the Great Highway
In 2024 San Francisco voters approved the creation of a permanent park on the former Great Highway. The space has become a paradise for kids learning to ride scooters and bikes, and people of all ages, abilities, and backgrounds wanting to enjoy the outdoors and fresh ocean air.
Slow Streets
Slow Streets provide kids and people of all ages, abilities, and backgrounds safe spaces to play, walk, recreate, build community, and connect with neighbors and local businesses. In 2022, 16 of the pandemic-era Slow Streets became permanent.
Who are we?
We are parents, families, walkers, stroller-users, runners, skaters, seniors, people with disabilities, and users of active transportation who believe that San Francisco needs more Kid Safe spaces and that everyone should have Kid Safe spaces nearby and accessible to them.
