April 11th KidSafeJFK Rally

100+ children rally to save KidSafeJFK at the steps of the California Academy of Sciences

Children, families, Assemblyman David Chiu, and countless others send powerful message about keeping the safe promenade open to people (and closed to cars)

On Sunday, more than 100 children (and hundreds of people) took action to save KidSafeJFK, and reporters from the New York Times, KQED, San Francisco Chronicle, and others were there to cover the event, that included powerful speeches from the “Mayor of Golden Gate Park” David Miles Jr., two children who use KidSafe Golden Gate Park daily, and California Assemblymember David Chiu, who gave an spirited and inspiring plea:

We can talk about how we ensure accessibility, and how ensure equity, but at the end of the day, we need to capture the magic of our city, when it comes to families, when it comes to kids, when it comes to safety, when it comes to the environment, when it comes to transit, when it comes to all the things we love. And that’s why we’re here.
— David Chiu, California State Assemblymember

How you can help

Many of you have asked us how you can help beyond signing our petition and emailing our city leaders.

Here are three things you can do right now to help our movement in a meaningful way:

1

Share our petition with three (or more) friends and neighbors — our goal is to get 10,000 signatures by the end of the month, and we need your help. If each of you get three people to sign the petition, we’ll hit our goal sooner.

2

Donate to our movement — our movement needs your support, and your donations help pay for flyers, signs, and posters to raise awareness, community outreach efforts, technical infrastructure to help our movement grow, and raffle prizes like those at Sunday’s rally, among other things.

3

Volunteer to help — our movement is 100% volunteer-run and we need more people to help spread the word about our cause throughout the city. New (and more accessible) volunteer and outreach opportunities are in the works, so please sign up if you’re willing to help — in any way — and we’ll be in touch.

Thanks for your support and willingness to help!

Please stay (kid) safe,
Luke (and the rest of Team KidSafeGGP)
