Save the JFK Promenade: Vote Yes on J

The JFK Promenade is under threat from a ballot measure, Prop I, that would end the promenade, end the Great Highway weekend compromise, and cost taxpayers $80 million to reverse course on the Ocean Beach Climate Adaptation Plan.

The Backstory: the car-free JFK Promenade is almost a reality!

On March 7, city staff released a recommendation that JFK Drive become a permanent pedestrian promenade in Golden Gate Park. Mayor London Breed also joined in to voice her support a permanent JFK Promenade.

The JFK Promenade is wildly popular: Over 70% of people support making it permanent, and support is strong citywide.

After an extensive public process over the past 2 years that has included a working group, an outreach program, a survey with over 10,000 responses, an access and safety program, and a traffic study, city agencies have addressed nearly all of the concerns of accessibility advocates and opponents.

Just last week, the Recreation and Parks Department launched a new park shuttle and is starting construction on a new ADA parking lot, leading to more accessible parking spaces than were available before the pandemic.

But we can’t celebrate yet.

The JFK Promenade won’t be a done deal until the Board of Supervisors votes on legislation to make it permanent. Write an email to your supervisor and call their office to let them know you want them to join Mayor Breed in supporting a permanently safe, healthy, and vibrant JFK Promenade!

Thank you to all of the advocates who have fought to get us this far. Your actions have made the difference so far, and now is the time to help us get JFK over the line!
